What this site is

Cam & Canopy ranks trail cameras and cellular trail cameras on the four things that decide whether a camera earns its spot on a tree: trigger speed and recovery, night image quality, battery and solar life, and the real monthly plan cost at one and four cameras. Around the cameras, it ranks the panels, packs, batteries, boxes, cables and mounts that keep them running and keep them yours, and it documents the scouting workflow that makes any camera produce. As of launch it covers 25 cameras across 55 rankings, head-to-heads, reviews and guides, with plan prices verified for 5 brands.

It is written for the enthusiast who is upgrading, not the person googling “what is a trail camera.” So the pages skip the definitions and lead with the decision: which camera for four sets on one plan, which panel plugs into which jack, which box fits which body.

Who runs it

Mike M., the hands-on owner behind Iron Mako Media, an independent publisher of outdoor-gear sites. Mike writes every page and is the single byline on the site. Iron Mako Media is the publisher and the entity behind the affiliate accounts; more about it is on its own site.

How the rankings are built

From manufacturers' published specifications, each brand's own plan page, and independent tests we cite by name. Every spec on a product card links to the maker's page it was read from, with the date. Every plan price carries an “as of” date and a link to the plan page. Where an independent measurement exists (Trailcampro's annual shootout and its individual reviews), it's attributed as theirs. Where a maker doesn't publish a number, the table shows a dash rather than a guess. The rubric and its weights are public on How We Rank.

What we don't claim

• We don't claim to have field-tested cameras we don't own, and no page implies it. The badge on the homepage says “spec-checked” for that reason.
• We don't print Amazon prices. They change daily; every button says “Check price on Amazon” until a live, dated feed supplies a number.
• We don't quote Amazon star ratings or review counts.
• We don't print a plan price we couldn't read on the maker's public page. Browning's, for example, sits behind a login, and the site says so.
• We don't list credentials, awards or testimonials, because there aren't any to list.

How the site is funded

Affiliate commissions. As an Amazon Associate, Cam & Canopy earns from qualifying purchases made through its links, at no extra cost to you.
