What a box does, and doesn't
A steel box does three things CAMLOCKbox states on its product page: it holds the camera in an exact fit "so the camera can be taken in and out while still pointing back to the same spot," it "stops animals from chewing on the camera," and it's a "theft deterrent." Deterrent is the honest word. A lag-bolted steel box with a Python cable through it turns a ten-second grab into a job with tools and time, which is what stops the opportunist. It won't stop someone who came with a saw. That's why the box is one layer of four in keeping your camera from being stolen: box, cable, height, and (on the Reveal Ultra) GPS that keeps reporting.

Lag bolt vs strap vs cable
CAMLOCKbox is a Green Bay, Wisconsin company that says its boxes and brackets are "true American made products." It doesn't publish steel gauge, so we can't compare thickness across boxes; every one is "all steel construction" with a powder-coated camo finish, per the Reveal X 3.0 box page.

Buyer's guide: boxes
Order by item number, not box number
Two brands can share a "Box 30." CAMLOCKbox's reference pages list an item number per camera; use it.
New model, new box
Bodies change between generations (Reveal X 2.0 vs 3.0, Flex-M vs M2). Before you assume last year's box fits, check the reference. The Flex-M2 note is the one that catches people.
Solar cameras need their own box
The Flex-S-Dark's panel has to see the sky, so it takes Box 11, not the Flex-Dark's Box 10. The Edge Solar and Edge 4 Solar weren't in CAMLOCKbox's Moultrie reference when we checked; confirm before ordering.
Buy the cable with the box
Every box "allows use of padlock or Python cable." The 6 ft, 5/16 in Master Lock 8419DPF is the one they're designed for; see best locks and cables.
How we scored this
Cameras we claim to have field-tested: none we don't own
Plenty of sites say they hung every camera on this list in a tree for a season. We don't say that, and we say so on every page. What we do instead: read the maker's published trigger speed, flash type, battery configuration and detection range; verify each brand's plan tiers on its own plan page and compute the real monthly cost at one and four cameras; cite the independent shootouts (Trailcampro, Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, TechGearLab) as their measurements, never ours; and score every pick on a public rubric. Every figure links to where it came from.
Scores are editorial judgments from that documented research, not lab results. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.

Do trail camera security boxes really work?
As a deterrent, yes: a lag-bolted steel box with a Python cable turns a grab into a job with tools. They also stop bears and squirrels chewing the camera and hold the aim when you swap batteries. They won't stop a thief with a saw and time.
Which security box fits the Tactacam Reveal X 3.0?
CAMLOCKbox Box 4, item 99930, which also fits the Reveal Pro 3.0 and Ultra. Older Reveal X bodies use Box 2.
Does the Spypoint Flex security box fit the Flex-M2?
CAMLOCKbox's reference says Box 10 (Flex, Flex G-36, Flex-M, Flex-Dark) "does not fit Flex M2." Check the reference for a current M2-specific box.
Is there a security box for the Moultrie Edge 3?
Yes: CAMLOCKbox Box 30, item 11904, for the Edge 3 and Edge 3 Pro. The Edge 4 and Edge Solar weren't listed when we checked.
