Spypoint Flex-M2 vs Flex-Dark vs Flex-S-Dark: the $40 and the $10 that matter

The $40 step: M2 to Dark

Trigger 0.4 s to 0.3 s. Detection and flash 90 ft to 100 ft. Photos 32MP to 40MP (both interpolated; treat as a wash). And the flash goes from low-glow only to "low glow and no glow LEDs that make no noticeable light or sound," per Spypoint. Trailcampro's 2026 shootout put the Flex-Dark first among cellular cameras for flash range. That's the best $40 in this category: it takes the M2 from a feeder camera to a crossing camera and adds invisibility where you need it.

One practical note for anyone with a security box: CAMLOCKbox's Box 10 fits the Flex, Flex G-36, Flex-M and Flex-Dark, and CAMLOCKbox states it "does not fit Flex M2." So the M2 is the odd one out on boxes, not the Dark.

The $10 step: Dark to S-Dark

Same 0.3 s, 100 ft, dual arrays, dual SIM. The S-Dark adds a built-in solar panel and battery that Spypoint says "replaces up to 1,000 AA batteries," and the series page lists live-streaming video as coming in spring 2026 for the S-Dark only. What you lose: Spypoint doesn't list an AA tray for the S-Dark, so the built-in battery is the whole power plan, and it only recharges if the camera faces sun. It also moves to CAMLOCKbox's Box 11.

Flex-M, Flex G-36, Flex-S: where the older ones fit

If you're searching "Flex-M vs Flex G-36," those are the previous generation. The original Flex-M is still on Spypoint's site at $59.99 (0.4 s, 90 ft, single-SIM, low-glow); it's the M2 without dual SIM or GPS. The Flex G-36 and non-Dark Flex-S no longer have product pages we could find on Spypoint's US site, though the LIT-22 and CAMLOCKbox reference pages still list them, so they're supported. If you own a G-36, the Flex-Dark is its successor in spirit (dual arrays, dual SIM); if you own a Flex-S, the S-Dark is.
