The Edge 3 and Reveal X 3.0 are closer on paper than the internet suggests: both low-glow, both around 100 ft, both multi-carrier (Moultrie "all 4 major networks," Tactacam "auto carrier selection"), both with GPS. The published trigger is where they part: Moultrie says 0.50 s for the Edge 3, Tactacam says "sub-1/2 s" for the X 3.0. On a trail crossing, a tenth of a second is about a foot of deer, and half a second is a deer that's half out of frame. See trigger speed explained.
Per-camera vs account-wide
At one camera they're within a dollar. At four, Tactacam is $3/mo cheaper on the base tier and then the Xtra difference kicks in: HD requests and on-demand video on four Reveals cost $9/mo total; on Moultrie, on-demand is included but video is metered (50 a month on Unlimited, $1 per extra 50). The cheapest tiers tell the same story: Moultrie Standard $8.99 per camera vs Tactacam Starter $5 plus $5 per additional camera. USB-C vs 12V, memory vs SD
The Edge line has no 12V barrel jack; it charges over USB-C from Moultrie's POWER MAG packs (the POWER MAG III is 5,000 mAh, 54 Wh, rated by Moultrie at 18 AA equivalent) or the 3.4W Solar Power Pack II. The Reveal has a 12-AA tray and a DC 12V input for Tactacam's Folding panel or any 12V pack. Practically: the Reveal can run on gas-station AAs in an emergency; the Edge can't. The Edge has built-in memory and no SD card to corrupt, lose or format; the Reveal uses a card, which is one more thing to check and one more thing that can fail. Neither approach is wrong. The Edge's is lower-maintenance; the Reveal's is more forgiving.
Why the Edge 3 Pro changes the answer
If the question is "Moultrie or Tactacam" rather than "Edge 3 or Reveal X 3.0," the Edge 3 Pro is the Moultrie to compare. For $139.99 on Moultrie's page it has a published 0.30 s trigger, a no-glow flash to 100 ft, 1440p video, 50MP stills, and it won Trailcampro's 2026 cellular detection shootout. Against the Reveal X 3.0 it's the faster, quieter camera with a sharper video mode. What doesn't change is the plan: every Edge is $12.99/mo per camera for unlimited. The Pro is a better camera; Tactacam is still the better system at four.

For one camera at a feeder, either works; the Edge 3 Pro is the better Moultrie for anything faster than a feeder.
Does the Moultrie Edge need an SD card?
No. Every Edge model lists built-in memory; images are stored and managed in the Moultrie app.
