Cellular Trail Cameras · Head to head
Spypoint vs Tactacam vs Moultrie: pick the ecosystem, then the camera
You'll own the plan, the panel and the boxes longer than any one camera body. This compares the three big cellular brands as systems: their best camera, how each bills, what four cameras cost, and what plugs into what.

Best camera from each brand
We picked each brand's best system camera rather than its most expensive. Spypoint's Flex-Dark is the brand's best on the woods axes and is the best value on the site. Tactacam's Reveal X 3.0 is the mid-line Reveal: the Pro 3.0 and Ultra add no-glow, a screen and GPS backup on the same plan (Reveal comparison). Moultrie's Edge 3 Pro is the fastest and the only no-glow Edge (Edge comparison).
How each brand bills
- Spypoint: per camera, with a free tier and annual discounts. Free 100 photos/mo. Paid tiers $5/$10/$15 monthly or $4/$7/$10 annual. HD photos and video are add-on packs ($5 per 50 HD photos, $5 per 20 videos) per camera. Insiders Club takes 20% off paid plans.
- Tactacam: per camera with discounted additional cameras, plus one account-wide add-on. Starter $5, Intermediate $8, Pro $13 for the first camera; additional cameras $5 / $7.50 / $12. Annual $55 / $85 / $120. Xtra (unlimited HD photo and video requests, on-demand, multi-shot) is $4/$7/$9 per month for the entire account at 1 / 2 / 3+ cameras.
- Moultrie: per camera, paid plan required, no free tier, no annual price for the main tiers. Standard $8.99 (1,000 images, 10 videos), Unlimited $12.99 (unlimited images, 50 videos), Pro Series $22.99. Add 50 videos for $1.

Power: what plugs into what
- Spypoint: AA tray or the LIT-22 lithium tray pack (7.4V, 5.4Ah; "up to 12 months" on an M2 per Spypoint), and the 10W SPLB-22 panel with a 15,000 mAh bank and four output cords. The S-Dark has the panel built in.
- Tactacam: 12 AA plus a DC 12V jack on every Reveal; Folding Solar Panel (7.2V/4,900 mAh, 12V/2A) or V2 panel (7.2V/5,200 mAh, 12V/1.5A). The 12V jack also accepts third-party panels like HME's.
- Moultrie: USB-C on every Edge; POWER MAG III (5,000 mAh / 54 Wh, "18 AA" per Moultrie) and the 3.4W Solar Power Pack II. No AA tray on the Edge 3 / 3 Pro. Edge Solar models have the panel built in.
Tactacam's is the most universal (12V is the common trail-camera standard), Spypoint's has the most capacity, Moultrie's is the tidiest. Full rankings in the Power hub.
Boxes, apps and warranties
CAMLOCKbox makes model-specific steel boxes for all three: Box 4 for the Reveal 3.0 line and Ultra, Box 10 for the Flex/Flex-Dark (not the M2) and Box 11 for the solar Flex-S bodies, Box 30 for the Edge 3 and 3 Pro. Warranties on the makers' pages: Spypoint 2 years, Tactacam 1 year from activation, Moultrie unstated on the product pages we read. App features overlap heavily (GPS map, on demand, AI filtering); Moultrie's Live Aim and Buck Shot, Tactacam's live streaming and Ultra GPS backup, and Spypoint's Buck Tracker are the brand-specific ones.
Verdict by camera count
- One or two cameras: Spypoint. Free tier, best value camera, 2-year warranty.
- Three to six cameras, HD and on-demand wanted: Tactacam. Account-wide Xtra, 12V power, one box for three bodies.
- Any count, if the camera itself must be the fastest and no-glow, and simplicity beats plan cost: Moultrie Edge 3 Pro.
- Marginal signal: any of the three; all hop carriers. Don't buy the single-SIM Flex-M.

What the spec sheet supports
- Auto carrier selection across major networks, so one SKU works in most areas
- Built-in GPS pins the camera on the app map and helps if it walks off
- 12 AA plus a 12V jack: the Folding Solar Panel or any 12V pack keeps it running
- Xtra add-on is per account, not per camera, which is what makes four cameras cheap
Where it falls short
- Low-glow flash: a faint red glow at night that some deer and most people notice
- No on-device screen; aiming is done through the app
- Trigger is stated only as 'sub-1/2 s', not a measured figure
Skip this if…
…you need a true no-glow flash for pressured deer or a security post, or you want a screen on the camera to aim without a phone.

How we scored this
Cameras we claim to have field-tested: none we don't own
Plenty of sites say they hung every camera on this list in a tree for a season. We don't say that, and we say so on every page. What we do instead: read the maker's published trigger speed, flash type, battery configuration and detection range; verify each brand's plan tiers on its own plan page and compute the real monthly cost at one and four cameras; cite the independent shootouts (Trailcampro, Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, TechGearLab) as their measurements, never ours; and score every pick on a public rubric. Every figure links to where it came from.
Scores are editorial judgments from that documented research, not lab results. Commissions never set a score or decide a pick. The rubric and its weights are published.
Questions
Frequently asked
Which is better, Spypoint, Tactacam or Moultrie?
As a system: Spypoint for one or two cameras (free tier, best value camera), Tactacam for three or more with HD (account-wide Xtra), Moultrie if you want the fastest no-glow camera (Edge 3 Pro) and don't mind per-camera billing.
Which brand has the cheapest cellular plan?
Spypoint: free 100 photos a month, then $4/mo annual for 250 and $10/mo annual unlimited. Tactacam's Starter is $5/mo plus $5 per additional camera. Moultrie starts at $8.99/mo per camera with no free tier.
Can I mix brands on one account?
No. Each brand's app and plan only serve its own cameras, which is why this page compares ecosystems. Mixing brands means two apps and two bills.
Which brand has the best night pictures?
Independent data: Trailcampro's 2026 shootout put the Spypoint Flex-Dark first among cellular cameras for flash range and the Moultrie Edge 3 Pro first for detection. Tactacam publishes 96 ft low-glow / 80 ft no-glow but no shootout placing we found.

We don't claim to have field-tested these cameras and we don't pretend to. Specs come from the maker's own product pages (linked on every product), plan prices from the maker's plan page with an “as of” date, and independent measurements are attributed to whoever made them. Amazon prices change often, so we don't print them. Where a figure isn't published, we say so. Read the full method.
